As a Kindle user who buys books a bit too often, I’m always looking for ways to get more bang for my buck. So, I was thrilled to discover that Amazon now has Kindle Rewards. It’s not a new program, but it has been in beta for a while. If you have access to Kindle Rewards or have heard about it but aren’t sure how it works or how to use it, this post will help.
What is Amazon Kindle Rewards?
Kindle Rewards is Amazon’s reward program that allows you to earn 3 points for every dollar you spend on Kindle books and 1 point for each dollar spent on print books. The goal of the program is to encourage people to buy Kindle books. For every 300 points you earn, you can redeem $3 to spend on a Kindle ebook. You can also get Kindle points when you complete bonus offers. You can only get a maximum of $3 discounted per purchase.
Not sure if you have access to this program? Try searching for a book on Amazon. You’ll see “earn XX points” in the Kindle and print format sections, as shown below.
Kindle Rewards vs Shop with Points
Sometimes people confuse the Kindle Rewards with Amazon’s Shop with Points. The two are not the same. Shop with Points is Amazon’s reward system with credit cards like American Express. It extends beyond books and can be applied to any products you buy on Amazon.
Where is the Kindle Rewards Page?
If you’re like me and can’t seem to find the rewards page, it’s at amazon.com/kindlerewards. On this page, you’ll see how many credits you have left to redeem, and when you click the Redeem button, it will automatically give you a $3 discount on your next Kindle ebook purchase.
Do Kindle Points Expire?
Unredeemed points expire between 3-6 months after issuance (depending on whether they were issued before or after June 2023). Redeemed credits will expire within a month of redemption, so I recommend only redeeming right before you purchase a book.
How do I redeem my Kindle reward points?
Head over to the Kindle Rewards page. If you have enough credits to redeem, click the Redeem button. You’ll see a message saying your $3 credit is on the way. When you head over to a book product page, you’ll see that $3 has been taken off the price. You can now purchase at a discounted price.
How do I check my Amazon Rewards points?
All you need to know about your Amazon Rewards points is on the Kindle Rewards page. For now, you can’t see the progress of your points or a detailed breakdown, so don’t click the “See my progress” button — it doesn’t work; it’ll only take your credit without giving you the $3 discount. I’m not sure why that button is glitchy.
Which Books Can You Redeem with Kindle Rewards?
You can redeem all eligible books except magazines and newspapers (basically non-books). For children’s books, I can redeem my point on pretty much anything. I’m not sure if this is different for adult books.
How do you know if a Kindle book is eligible for the digital rewards?
You’ll know if you see the call to earn XX credits with it. Most books eligible to earn credits from are often also eligible to get discounts on with the Kindle Rewards credit.
Is Amazon Kindle Rewards Worth It?
If you buy a lot of Kindle books for yourself or your kids, this program is totally worth it. It’s free, and you’re basically getting rewarded for buying books you’d buy without a reward anyway. To thank you for your purchases, Amazon gives you three bucks to make you come back and shop again for less. Just make sure you’re always buying because you want to, not because you’re getting $3 off. Often you still have to pay the balance, so make sure it’s a worthy purchase.
Do you have any questions about this rewards program? I’d love to help!
I like this program. I think it might be Amazon’s way of reducing the price of e-books that have become noticeably more expensive…”price set by publisher,” To take advantage of the program— Unless I need the book immediately, I save the book on my wish list at wait for double or triple award point days.
I agree with you. I enjoy using it too.
I just wish they didn’t expire. I have Kindle Unlimited and read most of my books through that program. It would take me closer to a year to spend $100 (300 points to redeem) rather than 3-6 months. I mean – it’s free so I can’t complain lol. I hope they add a visual so you can see when your current points expire. Thanks for the nice overview and explanation!
Right. I was so bummed to discover that they actually expire lol. Thanks for reading 🙂
